RTDE Issue Contents Research and Teaching Developmental Reading Education in
the United States: One Decade Later In the spring of 1990, Bullock, Madden and Mallery (1990) published "Developmental Education in American Universities: Past, Present and Future," in Research and Teaching in Developmental Education. Approximately a decade later, as we enter the new millennium, a follow-up survey of US developmental reading programs has been replicated. The follow-up survey reported here was undertaken to determine what changes, if any, occurred during the past decade. In this article, we analyze data from the follow-up survey, compare these data with the previous findings, and draw implications for the future of college developmental reading. Although many of the questions in the follow-up survey remain the same, several were altered and a few new ones were added. The original and new survey instruments can be found in Appendices A and B.
