Using ACT and GED Scores as indicators of Success for Postsecondary Students Enrolled with GED Certificates
By Maria C. Rose, Fairmont State College

Abstract

The GED credential opens the door to college for many students who otherwise would not be admitted to Postsecondary institutions and increasing numbers of people are taking the GED Tests each year. Research has been conducted primarily by the GED Testing service since the GED Tests were first instituted; however, more research needs to be conducted to determine the success rate of students in Postsecondary institutions who hold a GED certification. This study researched the ACT scores, GED scores, and college grade point averages of 251 students who were enrolled with GED credentials at a small four-year college.
