Annual NYCLSA Awards

The New York College Learning Skills Association is pleased to recognize students and professionals with four annual awards. Our newest award, the Promising Student Award, was established in 2009. This monetary award recognizes a student in financial need who is enrolled at an institution in New York State, taken at least one developmental course, and demonstrated the potential to succeed. Applications are accepted in the late fall from NYCLSA members in good standing. The first honoree was Ainsley Stoll, a student at SUNY Oneonta.

Ainsley Stoll, a student at SUNY Oneonta.

Outstanding Professional Service in the Field of Developmental Education to an individual whose research, publications, conference presentations. and/or other forms of professional service (within his or her institution or beyond it) have made exceptional contributions to advance the goals of the field.

Outstanding Service to Students in the Field of Developmental Education to an individual whose teaching, creation and implementation of courses and/or programs, and other forms of service to students (within his or her institution or beyond it) have made exceptional contributions to the success and achievement of students in developmental programs.

Outstanding Achievement as a Graduate of a Developmental Program to a student or former student who participated in a developmental program and went on to make exceptional achievements within his or her institution or beyond it.

Our many deserving colleagues and students can only be recognized if members nominate them. Please consider taking the time to nominate a worthy colleague or student. Each year before the annual Symposium, the Past President sends a formal call for nominations. However, you may nominate someone at any point during the year by sending your nomination letter to the current Past President (see http://www.nyclsa.org/officers.htm). In your letter, be sure to explain the reasons you think your nominee is deserving of a particular award and be sure to support your reasons with specific examples.
